Part A And Stuff Before That Flashcards

1
Q

Is changing your mind good?

A

If you don’t realize that past you was stupid, you’re doing it wrong. That doesn’t mean that you should be harsh to past or present or even future you over it, it just means that you can’t know that you’ve grown as a person unless you recognize that past you was an uniformed idiot. Relatively speaking. Compared to present you.

Q

Does rationality mean that I shouldn’t have emotions?

A

No, it means that you should ideally have emotions that are appropriate to the actual situation. Sometimes this is considered acceptable by society, sometimes it’s not. But absence of emotion is not inherently rational, nor is calm not an emotion.

Q

What is the bias blind spot?

A

The more you see biases in other people, the harder it is to recognize them in yourself. The more intelligent and knowledgeable you are, the more susceptible you are to this bias

Conjunction fallacy

A

“This happens” is ALWAYS more probable than “this AND that happens”

No matter what this and that are. Because probability is not additive it’s multiplicative when adding details.
