Pt owns until it has been filled once filled it is the legal property of the pharmacy

Yes as long as it is noted on the copy that it is a copy and has been filled
If a partial of a cii is filled how long does the pharmacy have to fill the remaining amount?
72 hours
Can you partially fill an rx for a long term care or terminally Ill patient
Yes if verified and documented and you have a 60 day window to dispense patials
Can a partial fill of a cii be filled by a different pharmacy than the original dispensing pharmacy
No
What 4 things must be documented on a partial cii fill
- Date of partial fill
- Amount dispensed
- Drug qty left to fill
- Signature and initials of dispensing pharmacist
Can a pharmacy do an emergency telephone rx fill for a cii
Yes, but can only dispense up to a 72 hour supply
After the up to 72 hour emergency fill is dispensed, what does the pharmacy still need
A written rx should be provided
How long does the provider have to get the emergency written rx to the pharmacy that dispensed the emergency fill?
Should be postmarked or received within 7 days
If the written rx for the emergency fill is not received, what should the pharmacy do?
Contact the local DEA office to report
How should the emergency written rx be filed
File with the telephone rx copy - need to make a note on the prescription that it was “authorized for emergency dispensing”
Can a cii erx be considered the written copy?
Yes as long as the prescriber is authorized
On schedule 3-4 how many refills are authorized
Refills are good for up to 6 months from the written date with a maximum of 5 refills
Does federal law limit the number of refills and duration of schedule 5 substances?
No - need to check specific state guidelines
