part 2 Flashcards
how did Fritz London describe London forces
according to him, non polar did not have charge, not dipole dont have IMFOA, So he said that they cant exist as liquid or solid but only gas
which molecules have FOA but are non polar molecules
Benzene (C6H6) and Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) are in liquid state but are non polar
when does a non polar molecule have FOA
The FOA is called Londons foa. Its when an atom’s electron does a rotation and somehow its position change so it shows a FOA
concept of hydrogen bonding
the bond formed by hydrogen and the electronegative element - Fluorine, oxygen and nitrogen
state variables of gas
To describe the physical condition of gas we require gas variables
4 state variables: temperature, pressure, volume and no. of moles
state variable: volume
the volume of gas is the volume of container
units: L, ml, cm3, dm3, m3
state variable: temperature
it is the measure of heat content of gas system
units: Kelvin(K), Celcius, and Fahrenheit
state variable: pressure
the force applied per unit area
units: bar, atm, torr, mm/cm of Hg, Pa
