Part 135 Flashcards

1
Q

Difference between Ops Specs, General Operations Manual and Training Manual

A

Ops Specs = FAA “menu” of things we may or may not do (if not listed, can’t do it)
GOM = FAA “accepted” description of how we will do Ops Specs
Trng Manual = FAA “approved,” detailed document on how business trains each employee to know and do the GOM

Q

Max Flight Time, Duty Day and Rest Required in a day

A

8 Hr Flight time (10 if 2 pilots but only applies to go Pt A -> B)
14 Hr duty day
10 hours required rest (when prop stops, look backwards and I must have 10 hours of uninterrupted rest in last 24 hours)

Q

Weather Requirements: Takeoff Mins?

Based on SE Turboprop; Ops Spec may be more restrictive

A

1 Mile or RVR 5000
(OS C057 we may not use reduced minimum takeoff weather when carrying pax—reduced min takeoff weather gets into the takeoff alternate discussion/requirements)

Q

Wx minimums to file?

A

Wx @ destination must be > mins at ETA
Note: if going to small strip w/o Wx reporting, must file to larger airport nearby, get to MVA and if I can stay VMC and land, I may (remember I may only cancel IFR while Part 135 under certain circumstances)

7
Q

What is required to cancel IFR while flying under part 135 rules?

A

Must have someone at the field who may report local winds, altimeter setting and traffic (remember to close flight plan as ATC locks down the TERPS’d airspace in case I go missed approach)

Q

When do I require an alternate?

A

Always, UNLESS:
- Ceiling is
>1500’ above lowest circling MDA — OR—
1500’ above lowest published min or 2,000’ above Field Elev (higher)
- Vis is (lowest min + 2 miles) or 3 miles (whichever is higher)

Q

What’s needed for a field to qualify as an alternate?

A
  • Wx reporting capability
  • Check Alt Mins or ensure no “A N/A”
  • If 1 nav facility, add 400’ and 1 SM
  • If 2 Nav facilities, add 200’ and 1/2 SM (Note, our Ops Spec—C55– allows for our GPS to count as 2nd facility)

Q

What if Wx goes below ceiling mins?

What if Wx goes below visibility mins?

A
Ceiling = may continue
Vis:
- Prior to IAF = hold or divert
- After FAF = may continue
(After IAF? Brian thought another restriction, but we didn’t find it)

Q

When may I descend below MDA or DH

A
  1. Landing environment in sight (lights, runway)
  2. Flight visibility is > landing minimums
  3. I’m in position for a normal landing
  4. I may not descend below 100’ above TDZE unless either Red terminating lights or side row bars are visible.

Q

Do I have to use Autopilot to fly approach to minimums?

Q

Traffic Patterns: standard =

  • L or R turns?
  • Entry __ deg, mid-point d/w
  • St-In: non-___ basis, +/-__ deg, >/= __ miles
  • Else cross __’ to __‘ above ptn alt
  • Recommended ptn alt __’
A
L turns = standard
Enters 45 degrees to mid-point d/w
St-in non-interference, 30 degrees, >5 mi
Else cross 500-1,000’ above ptn alt
Recommended ptn alt is 1,000’A
