Briefing suspects team:
The OC suspects must brief their team. To enable them to do that they should analyse statements, police reports, and information from the scene.
Their initial briefing should encompass:

- Circumstances of offending including analysis of scene, statements and evidence
- Full details of all persons of interest identified
- Descriptions of suspects provided by witnesses
- Whether any MO has been identified
What are the three responsibilities of the OC Suspects?
- Briefing the team
- Determining investigation priorities
- Providing briefings / debriefings
Management of suspects fall into three categories and where appropriate, the OC investigation will prepare a strategy dealing with each:

- Identification and profiling
- Arrest
- Interviewing
Prior to interviewing the suspect, the OC suspects should:
- Consult with other experts or legal advisor, if required
- Ensure the interviewer is fully briefed
- The interview is conducted in accordance with the investigative interviewing suspect guide
- Ensure the interviewer knows the elements that need to be established
Possible suspects may be identified through:
- CHIS
- Area canvas
- DNA
- Fingerprints
What research should be done when identifying the suspect?
- Names used by suspect
- Full description
- Movements
- Marital status
- Place of work
Before arresting a suspect, you must consult with OC investigation regarding an arrest strategy, to ensure:
- Decision to charge in accordance with solicitor-generals guidelines
- Prompt preparation of prosecution file
- FLO updates family
The OC suspects will arrange for a Police doctor to examine the suspect, the doctor must:
- Note any injuries
- Take samples as required eg blood, saliva, hair
- Firearm residue samples
- Professional opinion regarding suspects condition
