part 107 weather Flashcards
clouds,stable air, weather questions
Stable air
Stratiform clouds and fog Continuous precipitation Fair to poor visibility in haze and smoke Smooth air
unstable air
Cumuliform clouds Showery precipitation Rough air (turbulence) Good visibility, except in blowing obstructions
Radiation Fog
It forms overnight as the air near the ground cools and stabilizes. no wind
Advection fog
produced when air that is warmer and more moist than the ground surface moves over the ground surface. The term advection means a horizontal movement of air. Unlike radiation fog, advection fog can occur even when it is windy.
upslope fog
formed when air flows upwards over rising terrain and is adiabatically cooled to its saturation temperature. Upslope fog is a type of hill fog.
percipitation fog/steam fog
forms when rain is falling through cold air. This is common with a warm fronts but it can occur with cold fronts as well only if it’s not moving too fast. Cold air, dry at the surface while rain is falling through it evaporates and causes the dew point to rise.
low clouds
6500 ft and below, Stratus clouds, cumulus clouds
middle clouds
atocumulus, cirrus clouds, towering cumulonimbus
standing lenticular cloud
almond shaped clouds thats associated with bad weather
True vs magnetic
if you read it its true if you hear it its magnetic
who would pic check notams for unmarked balloon
Flight service
clouds are divided into 4 families according to their
height and range
what kind of air would you expect on a Barron hot day
unstable air
in which situation is advection fog most likely to form
an air mass moving inland from the coast in winter
what is the standard temperature and pressure values for sea level
15 Celsius and 29.92 hg
