Part 107 Flashcards
List the four forces of flight.
Lift, Weight, Force and Drag.
Lift is the engine and propeller working against the weight to make the drone or plane fly.
Force works against Drag to cause the drone or plane to move.

Airfoil
A person whose task is to keep an eye on the drone and its surroundings?
Visual Observer
When flying you crash your drone, when must you report it and to whom?
You must report the accident to the FAA within 10 days if the damage cost $500 or more, or if a person received a serious injury or lost consciousness.

Anti collision light that can be seen from 3 SM.
Can you operate from a moving vehicle on land or water?
Yes. When the drone is flown over an area that is “sparsely populated”.
Can you drop things from your drone?
Yes, as long as do not create a hazard to persons or property. (Confetti, etc.)
What controlled airspace can a drone pilot fly in without authorization?
Class E airspace that starts at the surface and is an extension of Class D airspace. It is referred to class E4
What does P-40 stand for on sectional chart?
Prohibited Area and then the 40 can be looked up to get details.
P = Security Reasons
How long do you have to tell FAA when moving?
Inform FAA within 30 days of change of address for license.
Must tell FAA of change of address for drone registration within 14 days (or when drone is destroyed/sold.)
What are characteristics of moist and unstable air?
- Cumuliform Clouds
- Turbulence
- Showery Precipitation
- Good Visibility
What is minimum visibility for flying a drone?
3 SM
What is max speed allowed for a drone?
- 100 mph
- 87 knots
What does A-301 mean on a sectional chart?
Alert and the 201 can be looked up on the chart for details on that area.
Yes you can fly there but must stay alert.
A = Usually flight training
What is distance you must stay away from clouds?
- 500 ft vertically and 2000 ft horizontally
- what cloud types make a ceiling on a metar report? BKN and OVC
How old must you be to receive a part 107 certification?
16 years old
What do cumulonimbus clouds indicate?
- Turbulent
- Thunderstorms
- Strong drafts
- lightning
- High precipitation
What is possible consequence of refusal to submit to blood alcohol test?
Lose rPIC certification
Does increase in temp alone affect drone performance?
Yes. It lowers drone performance.
- Higher temp, humidity and altitude all lower performance.
- Higher pressure increases drone performance.
What is a SIGMET?
A weather advisory that is transmitted in the event of a severe thunderstorm or surface winds greater that 50 knots.
What is the most important thing to consider when mounting things to drone before takeoff?
Center of Gravity
What does “- SHDZFG” mean on METAR?
Light showers, drizzle and fog
What times are TAF’s normally updated?
- 0000z, 0600z, 1200z and 1800z
- every 6 hours
Describe the Invulnerability hazardous attitude.
Pilot believes accident won’t happen to them.
Describe the macho hazardous attitude.
Risky stunts to impress (hold my beer example)
What to expect when you hear:
- low temp inversion
- high relative humidity
Clouds, fog or haze with poor visibility
Term for sudden changes in wind speed or direction that can create violent updrafts and downdrafts.
Wind shear or low-level wind shear
What would you expect on the east side of a building when the west side of the building are intense?
The winds from west side of building likely flow over the building and cause downward drafts on the east side, creating rolling turbulence.
What are consequences of an overloaded or improperly loaded drone?
- reduced rate of climb
- lower max altitude
- shorter range
- reduced speed
- more prone to stalling
Loss of control
When lighted airport beacon is spinning during daylight what does that mean
Flight conditions are below VFR.
How many days prior to event should FAA get waiver request?
90 days
What is condition when you start to feel symptoms of dehydration due to prolonged exposure to high temps?
Heat Stroke
How old do you need to be to register a drone?
13 years or older
Younger than 13 an adult must register it.
What are the “Standard Day” conditions?
- Altitude: Sea Level
- Temp: 15C or 59F
- Pressure: 29.92” Hg
Define Angle of Attack
The angle at which the chord of an aircraft’s wings meets the relative wind.
What are alcohol rules?
- 8 hours throttle to bottle
- AND less than .04
What is needed for a Cat 4 drone?
- An airworthiness certificate under part 21.
- Have maintenance schedules, etc.
What ft pounds of kinetic energy differentiate Cat 2 and Cat 3?
- Cat 2: 11 ft pounds
- Cat 3: 25 ft pounds
Define Means of Compliance and Documents of Compliance.
- Means of Compliance: Drone manufacturer says it will comply and here is how.
- Documents of Compliance: FAA says it meets standards (likely lists it on their site)
What are the rules for Cat 3 to operate over people?
- It can’t operate over open air assemblies (even transiting).
- Unless it is a closed restricted site and all humans are informed.
- Or all people are participating in the operation or are under cover.
Describe Civilian, Military, Water and Heliport airport beacons?
- Civilian: White and Green
- Military: 2 White then Green
- Water: White and Yellow
- Heliport: White then Yellow then Green
Describe traffic pattern after takeoff?
Upwind, the turn to crosswind, then turn to downwind then turn to base then back to upwind.
Always takeoff / land upwind.
Basic deviation calculation from standard day (temp and Hg)
1k ft increase from sea level:
