The Black Death

A

A disease brought by fleas on rats from Asia that killed millions in Europe -brought accidentally on boats. Arrived inengland summer of 1348 during the following autumn it spread quickly to the south west by the end of 1350 nearly killed 2 and a half million people. Nearly whole Great Britain was affected. Oriental rag flea caused the plague. Could be healed by cooked onions and figs or rubbing live frog bellies on the buboes until they stop bursting. Some say dried frogs do a better.

Influence of Islamic societies

A

Muslim empires were centres of learning
Muslim faith promoted scholarship inquiry
European scientists used the knowledge of Islamic individuals. IMPACT ON WORLDVIEW - made Europeans curious and want to study things like math, the human body,and astronomy (stars.)

The Silk Road (Other civilizations)

A

A trading route to exchange of goods such as silks and spices. Spread of ideas and knowledge. IMPACT ON WORLDVIEW
-exposes Europeans to a different way of life -more aware of other cultures - came back home with new attitudes and worldviews.
