What does testing do for the student?
It evaluates progress, determines student outcomes, and evaluates student needs
What is the the purpose to assessments?
It is a formal and informal method of evaluating progress/behavior
What is RTI?
RTI means response to intervention. It helps teachers assess what kind of support a student needs. Placement into 504 or IEP.
What is disproportionality?
It is the under or overrepresentation of various ethnic or linguistically different groups in SpEd
What is overrepresentation?
It is when too many students are eligable from one specific group
What are the four steps to a traditional model of assessment?
- Starts in general education classroom instruction
- Student gets referred to multidisciplinary team
- Team completes assessment
- Team meets to determine if student is found eligable for services
What are prereferral intervention strategies?
They address bias in the referral process and prevent unnecessary assessments as a part of RTI
What is autism? Give an example
It is a developmental disability affecting verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, and educational preformance. Usually diagnosized by 3 years old from having repetitive activities, stereotypical movements, resistance to change, and sensory problems. **think of Isaac
What is deaf-blindness?
Codominance of having deaf and blind impairments that effect communication, development, and education
What is deafness?
A hearing impairment that causes the child difficulty linguistically, with or without amplification
What is emotional disturbance? Give an example
A condition exhibiting one or more of the following for a long period of time
1. inability to learn (cannot be intellectual, sensory, or health factors)
2. inability to to build of maintain relationships
3. Inappropriate feelings/behaviors in normal settings
4. pervasive mood/unhappiness/depression
5. tendency to develop physical symptoms of fears
6. schizophrenia (does not include maladjustment)

Signifigantly subaverage general intellectual functioning existing cocurrently with deficts in adaptive behavior that develops.

Codominant impairments, the combonation causes severe educational needs that require SpEd programs to accommodate more than one

Severe orthopedic impairment. Many causes by congenital abnormalities, diseases, or other (cerebral palsy, burns, etc)
