Part 1 Flashcards
How are plant cells and animal cells similar?
Animal cells and plant cells are similar in that they each have a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm and vacuoles.
How are plant cells and animal cells different?
Animal cells and plant cells are different in that plant cells have cell walls and chloroplasts and animal cells do not.
What is the smallest part of a living thing that can carry out all the life processes and functions?
A cell is the smallest part of a living thing that can carry out all the life processes and functions.
What is the job of a cell membrane?
The membrane holds the cell together. It controls the materials that enter and exits the cell.
What is the job of a cell wall?
The cell wall is a rigid structure that surrounds the plant cell.
What is the job of the nucleus?
The nucleus is the cell’s control center. It directs everything the cell does.
What is the job of the vacuoles?
Vacuoles are storage spaces in the cell that stores food, water and wastes.
What is the job of chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts are the cell parts that contain chlorophyll
Draw a picture of a plant cell and label all the parts. (nucleus, vacuole, cytoplasm, cell membrane, chloroplast and cell wall)
Draw a picture of an animal cell and label all of its parts. (Nucleus, vacuole, cytoplasm and plasm membrane)
What are the characteristics of a plant?
All plants contain chlorophyll, which enables them to make their own food.
What are the characteristics of an animal?
Animals cannot make their own food, they are all made of many cells, and they are able to move from place to place.
What two groups are plants divided into?
Plants can be classified as vascular or non-vascular.
How is the animal group first divided?
Animals are classified by either being vertebrates or invertebrates.
What structure helps to classify a plant as vascular?
Vascular plants have stems, roots and leaves with tube-like structures that carry food and water.
