part 1 Flashcards
population is the unit of
evolution
major biomes of India
4 major biomes and their names are:
- tropical rainforest
- Deciduous forest
- desert
- sea coast
abiotic factors that are important for us are
temperature, water, light and soil
temperature: warm blooded
(endotherm/ homeotherms) warm blooded organism’s body temperature is constant so it needs a lot of energy so only aves and mammals are warm blooded organisms
cold blooded
(ectotherms/poikiliotherms) their body temperature is not constant so either they take up hibernation(winter sleep) or aestivation(summer sleep)
differences between eurythermal and stenothermal
eurythermal organisms are the one which can tolerate a wide range of temperature and stenothermal organisms are the ones which can tolerate a narrow range of temperature
differences between euryhaline and stenohaline
organisms that can tolerate a wide range of salinity are euryhaline and organisms that can tolerate a very narrow range of salinity
sciophytes
small herbs and shrubs that are generally overshadowed by tall canopied trees are adapted to photosynthesis through very low light intensities
