Influences on Parliament: Pressure Groups- what do they do?

A

They specialise and force government to act on their interests. Such as British Medical Association who represent doctors to promote a certain cause.

Influences on Parliament: The Media- what does it do?

A

It is a means in which opinion can change within the law about what is published. This causes government to bow to such public opinion
(Stigma)

A

at the beginning of the general election, the government set out a manifesto whereby they set an agenda, if they do this then they may be able to get into power.

Influences on Parliament: Lobbying- what do they do?

A

Some people persuade MP’s to support their cause. The name ‘lobbying’ is used as they meet in hallways/lobbies . Normally, lobbying occurs when persuading an MP to ask a Q in HOC so that the issue gets publicity.

What is a Bill?

A

A law in its creation stage

A

People who carry out instructions given by their Political ‘master’

What is a public bill?

A

They affect the whole country, drafted by civil servants which tend to be successful as MP’s can whip ministers to vote for the bill

What is a private members bill?

A

Individual MP’s may introduce a bill and each year there is a ballot whereby they get given the opportunity to do so. These often aren’t successful however as the party in power can block the bills

A

this bill affects organisations or individuals as they deal with personal matters. Hence ‘private’.
