What was Georges Clemenceau’s attitude towards Germany and why?
Hated Germany as not only had much of the fighting been in France, but he had lived through the German invasions on France in 1870 where Alsace-Lorraine was taken. Also felt threatened by Germany’s power.
What was David Lloyd George’s attitude towards Germany and why?
David Lloyd George was angry at Germany but now wary at them as after this war he did not want to fight Germany again.
What was Woodrow Wilson’s attitude towards Germany and why?
Was angry at Germany but just like Lloyd George, was cautious of starting another war. He was not as hostile to Germany as he hadn’t experienced as much fighting in his country as the other two had.
What were Georges Clemenceau’s main aims at the Paris Peace Conference?
- Georges Clemenceau wanted to cripple Germany so that it would not attack or pose a threat to France.
- Wanted to harshly punish Germany by seperating them into different states, but he knew that both Lloyd George and Woodrow Wilson would not agree to this.
- Another of his aims was to reclaim territories that had been taken by Germany, such as Alsace-Lorraine in 1870.
- Wanted reperations to rebuild
- Needed to satisfy public opinion
-Wanted to limit Germany’s army and navy to guarantee French security.
What were David Lloyd George main aims at the Paris Peace Conference?
- Did not want to punish Germany too harshly for fear of starting another war.
- Wanted to take away Germany’s colonies and navy so that they didn’t pose a threat to Great Britain.
- Wanted reparations so that he could start rebuilding his country.
- Was keen to start trading with Germany again to repair the British economy.
What were Woodrow Wilson’s main aims at the Paris Peace Conference?
- Scared of starting another war and so did not want to punish them too harshly.
- Wanted to intrdouce democracy to Eastern Europe and Germany so that Germany’s people would not let their leaders start another war.
- Wanted self determination in Eastern Europe so that countries could become individuals and rule/govern themselves.
- Establish the league of nations as a sort of ‘international police’
