BUILDING A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DEPENDANT
critical to form a close relationship with the dependant commits to the responsibility for promoting positive and supportive relationships
for example: to build relationships, parents and carers can show the dependant love
PROMOTING THE WELLBEING OF THE DEPENDANT
help the dependant make decisions about matters such as diet, physical activity, religion or spirituality, socialising and finances.

MODIFYING THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT-
(Parenting) - parents and carers preparing for a new child can ‘childproof’ their homes in a number of ways
(caring) - changes to the home can increase their independence and reduce the risk of injury. This also helps you by increasing the range of things that person can do for themselves.
PREPARATIONS FOR BECOMING A PARENT OR CARER
ORGANISING FINANCES- can lose income when the mother leaves work in order to rest before the birth/look after the baby after the birth
usually have numerous costs associated with the baby, e.g. food, shelter, comfort and stimulation
need planning how they will meet these costs and if necessary budget for them

AUTHORITARIAN- based on control, based on rules and regulations, often closed communications, parents speak children listen >:(
DEMOCRATIC- neither intrusive nor restrictive in their conduct and actions, discipline in a supportive way :)
PERMISSIVE/INDULGENT- hands off method, relaxed and laid-back approach, rules and regulations are uncommon, rarely enforced
NEGLIGENT- detached from their children and unconcerned about them, fails to meet their child’s physiological needs including needs of food etc.
