What is incongruent grieving?
Mother and father grieving at different paces
- parents may be jealous of other families with children
- may cause avoidance of going out and meeting people to avoid talking about the event
What support can be offered to parents whilst experiencing bereavement of their child?
- advice on taking baby home before funeral (cooling mattress used)
- memory building
- Memorial service at christmas time with other families in similar position
- Tree of tranquility - leaf placement
- Signposting to other charity support - SIMBA and Sands
- telephone support given
- home visits may be necessary initially
