Parasympathetic NS Flashcards
CN that contribute to PSNS
CN III, XII, IX, X
Part of spinal cord that contributes to PSNS
S1-S3
Location of gaglia
near effector organ
Branching?
Limited
Pre and post length?
Pre longer than post
Distribution to?
Just viscera
Path of CN III
Pre gang axons leave orbital fissure, synapse in ciliary, post gang axons (shory ciliary n.) go to ciliary muscle and constrictor pupillae
Path of CN VII- Chorda Tympani
Leave via petrotympanic fissure, and travel on lingual branch of CN V, pre gang fibers synapse in mandibular or sublingual ganglia. Post gang axons innervate same glands!
Path of CN VII- Major Petrosal N
Leave tympanic fissure, synapse in pterygoid palatine ganglia. Post Ganglionic axons travel with lacrimal branch of ophthalmic branch and go to lacrimal gland. Other post ganglionic fibers go with maxilarry branches to nasal and palate glands
Path of CN IX
Pre ganglionic axons leave skull via the auditory tube opening as the minor pretrosal n. and synpase at the otic ganglia (by the oval foramen). Post gang carried by auriculotemporal of mandibular to the parotid. Post gang also carried by buccal of mandibular to the zygomatic and buccal glands.
Path of X
Pre ganglionic axons travel and synapse with PS ganglia located within wall of visceral organs.
S1-S3
Pre gang synapse in either pelvic plexus or on or in target organ. Go to pelvic organs (genital, urinary, descending colon to rectum
Name the 5 Parasympathetic ganglia of the head?
Otic, Ciliary, Pterygoid, Mandibular, sublingual
