Q

What are the actions of adrenaline on the alpha 1 receptor?

A

Increases intracellular Calcium which causes:

Smooth muscle contaction

  • Peripheral vasoconstriction
  • Pupil dilation
  • Decreased saliva
  • Sweating
  • Urinary retention
  • Constricted uterus
  • Decreased gut motility (non-pregnant)
  • Glycogenolysis

Relax smooth Muscle

  • Also decreases gut motility

Q

What are the actions of adrenaline on the alpha 2 receptor?

A
  • Vaso constriction
  • Decrease release of acetylcholine
  • Inhibits insulin release in pancreas
  • Induction of glucagon release from pancreas
  • Platelet aggregation
  • Supression of release of noradrenaline by negative feedback

Q

What are the effects of adrenaline on the Beta 1 receptor?

A

Increases Cardiac output by:

  • Increase HR in the SA node (positive chronotope)
  • Increase Contractility (positive inotrope)
  • Faster conduction, and more automaticity through the AV node
  • Renin release from juxtaglomerular cells
  • Lipolysis in adipose tissue
