W/in 2-3 days
Normal resumption of bowel activity after abd surgery: SB = w/in hrs; stomach = 1-2 days; colon = 3-5 days

A
Persists >72hrs no return of bowel sounds on auscultation no passage of flatus abd distention more marked + tympanic no pain

sepsis => localised or generalised ileus
