What is the Point
It can be argued that religion is a cause of social change through the influence it has on people.
What is the explain?
Means that religion can change the conservative norms and values of society, enabling figures to take the moral ground.
What is the evidence?
The civil rights movement (Bruce) contrasts and compares the religiosity movement led by MLK
What is the Analysis?
By appealing to Christian value of ‘love thy neighbour’ shared by both black and white clergy, it has led to shaming the white ruling class. He is also a black articulate man, providing a good role model.
What is the Evaluation?
Although segragation laws abolished, racial predjudice and inequality still exist today. E.g. BLM showing how that religion has led to a le gal change, but overall not a social change.
