Paracetamol (Panadol) Flashcards
Indications
Mild to Moderate pain
- effective when used with other meds for longer relief and transportation
(AsFirst Responder- use this over ibuprofen )
Contraindications / cautions
Known Severe Allergy Severe Hepatics (liver infection)
Be cautious w severe liver disease, abdo pain, had in the last 4 hours .
It is safe in pregnancy!
Dose/Route
Adults over 80kg - 1500mg (1.5g) or 3 tablets every 6 hours.
Adults under 80kg - 1000mg (1.0g) or 2 tablets every 6 hours.
Children under 40kg typically 1 tablet every 6hrs.
Children 30-40kg 250mg (0.5 tablet) every 6 hours
Children under 30kg- liquid. REFER to CPG for children dose
Toxicity + lethal level (need to know)
Toxicity level - 150mg / kg body weight
Lethal level - 300mg / kg body weight
Signs /Symptoms/ prognosis of paracetamol poisoning
S&S: Malaised palor, jaundice, anorexia, N&V, sweating
Prognosis- catastrophic liver failure in2-5 days
Therapy includes : Acetylcystine (hospital)
