What is papilloedma?
A
Optic disc swelling that is caused by increase intracranial pressure
It is almost always bilateral

What are some causes of papilloedema?
A
Space occupying lesion: neoplastic or vascular Malignant HTN Idiopathic intracranial HTN Hydrocephalus Hypercapnia Meningitis

What are the typical signs of meningitis?
A
Headache Photophobia Neck stiffness Pain on putting chin to chest Papilloedema Fever Rash
In the case of papilloedema being present DO NOT perform an LP due to risk of coning as intracranial pressure already raised- start abx straight away
