What is the “sanctity of life”?
The belief that life is sacred and is made and a gift from God which is to be respected and protected. Christians and Jewish people believe in this.

What does “Pikuach Nefesh” mean. How can Jews live this out in their lives.?
Pikuach Nefesh means that saving a human life should take priority over everything even if this means breaking some of the mitzvah rules set out in the Torah. Jewish people live this out in their lives by making it acceptable to extinguish a fire if someone were trapped.
What is “euthanasia”?
Euthanasia is the deliberate ending of a persons life for compassionate reasons.
What are the 5 different types of euthanasia?
- Active euthanasia: something is done to a person to make them die more quickly. Eg giving drugs with the intention of bringing out death.
- Voluntary euthanasia: when a person asks for their own life to be ended.
- Non-voluntary euthanasia: when a person cannot make a decision about euthanasia or cannot make wishes on their own, and so someone else eg a doctor or a family member, decides that it would be in the persons best interest if their life was ended.
- Involuntary euthanasia: when a person wants to live, but someone else eg a doctor or family member decides that it would be in the persons best interest if their life was ended.
- Assisted suicide: deliberately assisting or encouraging another person to end their own life.
What is “palliative care”?
A form of care/action that helps people who are terminally I’ll.
What is a “terminal illness”?
An illness when there is no cure.
