Question 1 tips
- Draw a box around the part of the Source in the question
- Some questions may require inferences
- Carefully read each statement as it may be worded very similarly to a false answer
- Statements are always presented in chronological order, read and check each statement individually one after an other
- 5 minutes
Question 3 tips
- Box the part of the extract in the question
- Highlight phrases in the extract which relate to the question
- Out of all the phrases highlighted, pick the 3 best phrases to analyse
- After finishing the first paragraph, start the second or third paragraph with ‘Furthermore’ or ‘Moreover’
- Do 3 paragraphs
- Use different language technique in second and third paragraph
- Spend 15 minutes on question
Question 3 model answer paragraph
- (Writer’s name) makes usage of (language type) in order to convey how (…)
- This is evident in the (language type) (“…”) (context for usage of language)
- This has connotations to the idea that (…)
- This causes the reader to feel as though (…)

- PEEL paragraph on each
- Don’t talk about language or structure in point of each paragraph

- Intro (Both Source A and B express (…) in fairly similar / very contrasting ways, as Source A mentions (…) whilst B reffers to (…)
- PEEL paragraph structure for each Source
Question 4 tips
- 20 minutes
- Refer to thoughts and feelings of the writer and not of other people in the source or the reader
- 2 large paragraphs

- One paragraph for the first half of each Source and then one for the second
