Paper 2 Flashcards
What is a scalar quantity?
A quantity that has only magnitude ie
Temperature, mass, Distance, speed
What is a vector quantity?
A vector quantity is a quantity of both magnitude and direction ie Displacement, weight, acceleration, force
What is a resultant force?
When several forces act on an object they could be replaced by a single force with the same result
What is elastic deformation?
When an elastic object is stretched or compressed but returns to its original shape when the forces are removed
What is inelastic deformation?
When an inelastic material changes shape after forces act on it
How do you calculate Work Done?
Work done (J) = Force (N) x Distance (m)
How do you calculate Force?
Force (N) = Spring Constant (N/m) c extension (m)
What is Newton’s 1st law?
An object at rest remains at rest whilst an object in motion remains in motion at a constant speed without interference
What is Newton’s 2nd Law?
Acceleration is directly proportional to the force applied
What is Newton’s third law?
For every force or action there is an equal and opposite reaction
