Paper 2 Flashcards
why does a proton travel in a semi circular path in a cyclotron?
the electromagnetic force acts as a centripetal force which is uniform and 90 degrees to the direction of travel
why is energy released during fusion?
the mass defect is converted to energy and the binding energy per nucleon increases
what does the nucleon and proton number say about a fusion reaction?
a larger proton number requires more ke as it has more charge, a larger nucleon number means radius of nucleus is bigger and so separation can be larger and so the rate of fusion is higher
what is faradays law
emf is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage
what is the fundamental force for alpha particle scattering?
electromagnetic
what is Lenz law?
direction of the emf induced is such that it will try to oppose the change of flux that is producing it
what is gravitational potential?
work done moving 1kg of mass from infinity to a point in a field
what is one Tesla?
The tesla is the strength of the magnetic field/flux density that produces a force of 1 newton in a wire of length 1 m with 1 ampere
