The population validity in this study could be considered low due to the sample involved. For example, the study is likely to involve unemployed or retired people travelling on trains during the middle of the day. This means we do not know if the results can be generalised to younger and employed individuals.

The ecological validity could be considered high as a result of the location of the study: As the observers are boarding a regular train to London Waterloo, this environment is natural and perhaps a normal situation for the participants to be in. Therefore, it is likely the results can be generalised as the participant’s behaviour reflects that of a real life scenario.
