Paper 1 PAGs Flashcards
Comparing methods of determining g
s = ut + 1/2at^2
Plot a graph of 2h against t^2 and draw a line of best fit
Derive gradient from the equation
Gradient is equal to g
Investigating terminal velocity
Drop a ball into a tube with viscous fluid and wrap elastic bands around at set intervals measured with a ruler
v=d/t
Plot a graph of velocity against time, value velocity tends to is terminal velocity
Use a strong magnet to remove the ball
Investigating initial speed and stopping distance
Model a vehicle as a block of wood
Glue an interrupter card to the side of the block of wood so the time for the width of the card to pass is fixed - doesn’t interrupt the block’s motion
Set up a light gate
Record starting position of the block and position the light gate not too far away
Push the block and record the position at which it stops
Find the stopping distance for a range of velocities
Plot a graph of stopping distance against velocity squared - a straight line through the origin
1/2mv^2 = Force x stopping distance
