Paper 1 Flashcards
Angular Displacement
Angle an object in circular motion turns through in radians.
Angular Speed (ω)
Rate of change of angular displacement of an object in circular motion.
Annihilation
When a particle and its antiparticle meet, they destroy each other to produce 2 photons of equal energy.
Back emf
The emf induced in a coil of an electric motor in which the current is changing.
A back emf acts against the change of applied pd.
Charge Carriers
Charged particles that move through a substance when a pd is applied across it.
Coherent
Two sources of waves emitted with a constant phase difference.
Couple
Pair of equal and opposite forces acting on a body but not along the same line.
Light Damping
The amplitude of oscillations decreases gradually.
Heavy Damping
System released and returns to equilibrium without oscillation.
Critical Damping
System returns to equilibrium in least possible time without oscillating.
De-excitation
Atom loses energy by photon emission as a result of an electron moving from an outer shell to an inner shell.
Drag Force
Force of fluid resistance on an object moving through the fluid.
Elastic Collision
A collision where the total kinetic energy after collision is equal to total kinetic energy before collision. Momentum is also conserved.
Elastic Limit
Point beyond which a material is permanently stretched.
Electromotive Force (emf)
Amount of electrical energy per unit charge produced inside a source of electrical energy.
