Paper 1 Flashcards
what is a formulation
A mixure which has been designed for a useful purpose
like fuel / medicine/ alloys etc
if a substance doesnt move far up the stationary phase in chromatography what does it have
a strong atttraction to the stationary phase
why do nanoparticulates have different properties than they do in bulk
due to their small size and large SA:V ratio
what are some uses to nano particles
paints, cosmetics and sunscreens
why can nano particles be used as catalysts
due to their large SA:V
what are the differences between uses nanoparticles in bulk compared to nanoparticulate
particulate may catalye more efficienctly
catalyse different reactions
produce different products
risks to nanoparticles
possible to be inhaled
could catalyse harmful rections
toxic substances could bind to them cause large SA:V
