paper 1 Flashcards
What are some tectonic natural hazards
Earthquakes or volcanoes
What are some atmospheric natural hazards
hurricanes tornadoes
What are some geomorphological natural hazards
Flooding landslides
What is a natural hazard?
an extreme event that occurs naturally and causes harm to humans as well as having a large social impact.
three different types of plate margins
constructive
conservative
destructive
What is an example of a biological hazard
forest fires (something living)
why do people put themselves at risk by living near hazards?
may not want to leave
don’t believe the hazard will occur
jobs in the local area
language barriers to them leaving
is the crust layer thick or thin ?
Very thin
mantle is the layer thick or thin?
very thick
what are the 4 layers of the earth?
Crust
mantle
outer core
inner core
what is the mantle full of?
molten rock flowing slowly
what does the heat of the core set up
convection currents in the mantle
what are the two types of tectonic plates?
oceanic crust
continental crust
is the oceanic crust a thick or thin layer
Thin
is the continental crust a thick or thin layer?
Thick
how are destructive plate margins formed?
continental meets continental no subduction of plates plates collide and cause mountains to forms earthquakes will occur no volcanoes
destructive plate movement continental with oceanic
more dense oceanic plate subducted below the continental plate
its taken down to the hot manle which will melt and become apart of the magama
new magma will pop out the other side and cause volcanoes
conservative plate movement
two plate moving against each other causing friction that leads to earthquakes
no volcanoes
constructive plate movement
plates moving the opposite direction
the magma becomes exposed as the plates separates causing it to reach the surface and cool down into new rocks.
can lead to rift valley
(natural hazards)
what is a primary effect
the first effects pf a natural hazard or event the population. ( people or buildings)
( natural hazards)
secondary effects
the after effect of a natural hazard, over a long period of time, days, months, years
( natural hazards)
the immediate effect
how people react straight away
What is a HIC
High income country
gross national income is $12,000 per person
what is a LIC
Low income country
gross national income is less then $12,000
