pancreas Flashcards
what are the different structures of a pancreas
-pancreatic duct= delivers fluid from pancreas into duodenum= top part of small intestine
-acinar/ acini cells
-islets of langerhans
-blood capillaries
what are the two functions of the pancrease
-exocrine function
-endocrine function
which only cells are involved iin the endocrine function
islets of Langerhans
what are the 2 types of islets of langerhans cells and their function
-alpha cells= make and secrete glucagon
-beta cells = secrete insuliin
why are islets well supplied with capillaries
so hormones secreted directly into blood
explain the exocrine function of the pancreas
-involves majority of cells
-cells of acini synthesise and release digestive enzymes
-other cells secrete hydrogen carbonate to neutralise contents of stomach
which digestive enzymes do the acini synthesis and release
-amylase
-trypsinogen (inactive protease) and lipase
