A

Origin:

  • Medial 1/3 of superior nuchal line
  • External occipital protuberance
  • Nuchal ligament
  • SPs of C7-T12

Insertion:

  • Acromion/spine of scapula
  • Lateral 1/3 of clavicle

Action:
[Descending fibers] elevate scapula
[Middle fibers] retract scapula
[Ascending fibers] depress scapula

Rhomboids

A

Origin:
[Major] SPs of T2-T5
[Minor] Nuchael ligament and SPs of C7-T1

Insertion:
[Major] Medial border of scapula from spine of scapula to inferior angle
[Minor] Smooth triangular area at medial end of scapular spine

Action:

  • Retract the scapula
  • Fix scapula to thoracic wall
  • Depress glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating scapula

Origin:

  • Posterior tubercles of C1-C4

Insertion:
-Medial border of scapula superior to root of spine

Action:

  • Elevates scapula

Action:

Action:
-Medially rotates/adducts arm
