PAL dispensing Flashcards
How do you avoid misfits
The majority of misfits can be solved by frame adjustment rather than remaking the glasses.
Follow up phone call 1 week after dispensing:
If distance vision is blurred:
Check distance Rx for accuracy
Fitting height too high
Re-check monoc. PDs
how you adjust if Fitting height too high
Spread nose pads only if the pads are too tight
Bend the temples down to increase the pantoscopic
If near vision is blurred:
Check near Rx for accuracy
Fitting height too low
Bring nose pads closer together only if they are too wide
Bend the temples up to decrease the pantoscopic tilt
Re-check monoc. PDs
Patient Can only read clearly with head turned
o Re-check monoc PDs
o Center frame on face (may be shifted laterally)
o Pantoscopic tilt
o Face form adjustment
Difficulty watching TV while reclining
o Patient education on adjusting their posture
o Other option, single vision for TV
Fitting crosses are too low
Patient will complain that they have to tilt their head back
decrease panto OR
move the nose pads closer together
how to check Distance vision while dispensing the glasses?
@ eye level , looking straight ahead
Near vision
in the lower part of the lens by lowering eyes and slightly raising head if needed
Incorrect pantoscopic tilt creates
. unwanted astigmatism throughout the lens
. affects the perceived height of the progression
. change the fitting height
•Faceform or “wrap”
move the optical axis, also brings the lens periphery closer
Short vertex distance
reduces aberrations
Negative wrap gives
narrow fields of view (never do this)
