The degree of a surface luster of a dried paint film, ranging in decreasing order of gloss from high gloss, semi gloss , eggshell to flat.
Gloss
Having a brilliant sheen or luster.
High gloss
Any paint or varnish drying to Avery smooth , hard, usually glossy finish.
Enamel
Having a moderate, satiny luster. Also called satin finish.
Semigloss
Having a little or no gloss.
Eggshell
Without gloss or sheen.
Flat
Having a color that will not fade or run with washing, age, or exposure to sunlight.
Colorfast
A ray of light that produces yellowing, chalking, and disintegration of paint coatings.
Actinic Ray
Of or pertaining the chemical action of radiant energy especially light.
Photochemical
A measure of the area over which a gallon of paint may be spread at a given thickness, usually expressed in square feet per gallon.
Coverage
The ability of paint film to conceal any mars or pattern on the applied surface.
Hiding power or covering power.
A paint or primer formulated with rust-inhibiting pigments to prevent corrosion.
Anticorrosive paint
A paint formulated with substances to reduce the flame-spread of a combustible material.
Fire-retardant paint
A paint formulated with silicone resins to withstand high temperatures.
Heat-resistant paint
A combination of one or more coatings selected for compatibility with each other and the surface to which they are applied.
Paint system
A thin coat of transparent color applied to enhance color of painted surfaces.
