Q

It’s a mess in here. I’m planning on moving out soon so everything is kinda chaotic.

A

Is that why this mattress is on the first floor?

26
Q

A

A

37
Q

A

38
Q

I honestly thought you weren’t coming back.

A

Where else would I go?

39
Q

Well if it’s not my place where else would you end up?

A

I don’t know. A shelter, back of someone’s car.

40
Q

What happened to you Jacob?

A

What? You mean where it all went wrong?

41
Q

Sure.

A

Do you remember anything about me?

42
Q

I remember you don’t have any parents.

A

Yep… I thought you didn’t have any parents too?

43
Q

I have one parent left… It’s my mom.

A

Oh… you still talk to her?

44
Q

I haven’t spoken to her in years.

A

Oh… I’m… sorry.

45
Q

Don’t apologize. It’s for the best… I never heard about what happened to your parents?

A

It’s complicated.

46
Q

Everybody’s life is complicated.

A

It’s just I’ve never really talked about it.

47
Q

Well I’m letting you crash here, might as well get to know how we got where we did.

A

…Ok… Well, my mom died when I was about 3, she was hit by a car. Don’t really have a memory of her. After that my Dad fell into a deep depression and from what my brother says he was never the same. We moved around quite a bit in and out of the city until we ended up here. My dad tried to date other people but that never worked out. By the time I was 6 my dad had turned to drugs to cope. At first we didn’t suspect anything but as time went by he’d just start doing it in front of me and my brother… my brother told me that dad was always strict but never abusive when we were that young. But I didn’t know that man. The only Dad I knew was always angry, always high… his abuse really kicked in by the time I was 9… at that point I wasn’t in school that much… the bullying just got to me… but my dad had no limits… he’d hit me, shove me into walls, throw me and my brother out of the house in the cold, manipulate me into feeling bad for him…. and my brother got it way worse just because he was older… there was this one time my dad left a bag of cocaine out, I was like 10 and I ingested it, and that was the first time I got high… yea

48
Q

How did he die?

A

Oh this sucked… so my brother was pretty much like a father figure to me. I was so afraid of Dad that we’d always go to each other for comfort. There was one night when I was 11, my brother and I made it a tradition to watch classic horror movies on halloween, so we were watching one and suddenly my dad comes barging in the house, screaming, accusing me and my brother of hiding his drugs. One thing led to another he started beating on both of us. He threw a bottle at me and , I was bleeding, my brother grabbed him from behind and threw him down, and then beat found a baseball bat and beat him with it. He was so full of rage. My dad was just laying there, and slowly, he started to move less. He was limp. My brother just kept beating him… I just stared. I didn’t what to do, I’ll get that image out of my head.

49
Q

What happened after?

A

Uhh… after that my brother was arrested and charged with murder. Since he was 18 they chard him as an adult.

50
Q

What happened to you?

A

Umm… my grandparents took me in but like the damage was already done. I was homeschooled till high school where they decided I should go to make friends. And well you know the rest… a screw up making bad choices

51
Q

…he always ended up relapsing one way or another.

A

Did you ever end up meeting him again?

52
Q

Jacob I know you have more stuff.

A

What? No I don’t Christie

53
Q

Just shut up and it to me please!

A

Christie I don’t have anything!

54
Q

Please! It hurts so bad!

A

Christie, you don’t need it! I won’t let you!
