Pain Preception Flashcards
Where is The sensations convoyed in conscius pathways received?
Postcentral gyrusโ๏ธ of The parietal lobe.
What modulates perception of pain?
Descending inhibition.
What is amygdala associated with?
Fear and rage๐๐พ
What comes from Cingulate gyrus?
Emotional response.
Thalamus is site of what?
3 order neurons.
What is it Called When surrounding tissue is more sensitive to touch, hot and cold?
Hperaglesia.
What do the inflammatory mediators CGRP and substance P activate?
Microglial cells and astrocytes ( which in turn produce further inflammatory mediators).
1st order neuron changes what it synthesizes=?
Peripheral sensation
Hyperhydrosis means?
More sweating
What is complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)?
Nerve injury (not completely cut)
What is wallerian degeneration?
Peripheral nerve damage/compression.
-can recover:)
A servere compression over a long periodnof time leads to?
Wallerian degeneration.
Furting of a nerve leads to?
The connective tissue is also cut so regeneration will always be incomplete.
Polyneuropathy=?
Diffuse symmetrical involvement of peripheral nerves.
Mononeuropaty= single involvement
What is multiple mononeuropathy?
Many individual nerve fibers affected.
Large nerve fibers are affected in ureamic neuropathy. When is small fibers affected??
In diabetic neuropathy.
What happens ja if lover motor neurons die?
The target muscle innervated by those cells atrophies.
What is not possible If a upper motor neuron cell body or its axon is damaged (as in a stroke).
Voluntary movement.
Whatโs a motor neuron pool?
A group of motor neurons and their distal branches. That innervates a whole muscle.
What happens to muscle whit upper motor neuron lesion?
It will have increased tone (spasticity)
