Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic so stops pain signals from the brain getting to the body and SNRI (serotonin/noradrenaline reuptake-inhibitor) activates inhibitory pain pathways. Also an antidepressant.
Respiratory depression, confusion, constipation, nausea, dizziness
Interacts with alcohol

Uses: pain and inflammation
Class: NSAID
Mechanism of action: COX inhibitors which stop prostaglandins (cause vasodilations) and thromboxanes (causes platelet adhesion). This causes decreased inflammation and swelling and therefore decreased pain.
Side effects: stomach ulcers so can cause melaena
