Mechanism: Selectively blocks COX-2
Notes: Most common COX-2 inhibitor
Codeine
Class: Opioid
Side Effects: Dizziness, respiratory suppression, nausea
Mechanism: opioid receptors in CNS. Unknown
Notes: cough suppressant
Diclofenac
Class: NSAID
Side Effects: Nausea, dizziness, headache
Mechanism: Blocks COX non-selectively
Notes: Topical preparation (Voltaren)
Etodolac
Class: NSAID
Side Effects: Nausea, dizziness, headache

Notes: Selective for COX-2 at low doses (TID)

Notes: For acute pain, don’t use for long
