Ca*+ Channel Blockers (cardizem)
Example: Cardizem is a calcium channel blocker.
Drugs ending in ‘PRIL’
ACE inhibitor (block Angiotensin from becoming Angiotensin II)
Example: Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor.
Drugs ending in ‘LOL’
Beta blockers (Albuterol will not work in pt on beta blockers)
Example: Metoprolol is a beta blocker.

Acute Myocardial Infarction (Acute MI) symptoms
Skin cool, pale, sweaty
SOB
Anxious
Feeling of impending doom
Pain that radiates to arm, shoulder, neck, jaw or back
Begins at rest
Denial
May have normal VS in the beginning with NO chest pain
Not relieved by nitroglycerin
Example: Acute MI is a serious condition.
Angina symptoms
Induced by exercise, emotion, eating
Relieved by nitroglycerin and rest
Main symptom of CAD (coronary artery disease)
Last 3-5 months typically
Example: Angina is a common symptom of CAD.
CHF/ Left sided heart failure symptoms
Dyspnea
Rales
Tachycardia
Chronic atrial arrhythmias
Pink, frothy sputum (pulmonary edema)
Example: CHF can lead to pulmonary edema.
CHF treatment in prehospital setting
O2, nitroglycerin, Morphine- VASODILATE to decreased workload of fatigued heart muscle- allows heart to pump more effectively
Example: Treatment for CHF in prehospital setting.
Right sided heart failure symptoms
Peripheral edema
JVD (blood backing up)
Ascites (d/t enlarged liver)
Patient may c/o RUQ pain d/t enlarged liver (blood backing up d/t heart failure)
Example: Symptoms of right sided heart failure.
