Page 3 Flashcards
- List FOUR factors that could cause a loss of vision to a plant or vehicle driver on site.
1) Weather (sunlight/rain)
2) Dirty windows
3) Broken mirrors
4) Booms
5) Passengers
- What should the marshaller ‘take into account’ when positioning an item of plant which is able to slew (such as a 360 degree excavator or crane), in a confined area?
Crush zone (area between vehicle/plant counterweight and structures).
- During a reversing activity, the marshaller notices that the driver/operator is not fully watching them and using other aids e.g. using the reversing mirrors. What TWO actions should the marshaller take?
1) Let the driver/operator continue as long as the machine stays on the correct path.
2) Stay in the correct marshalling position but immediately stop the machine if it deviates from the correct path.
- a) What should the marshaller check before they start to guide and assist an item of plant that is being repositioned?
That the machine is set up correctly for travel.
- b) what is the general rule for the positioning of the cab on a 360 degree slew type machine when travelling?
The cab should be facing the DIRECTION OF TRAVEL!
- c) . Generally the rule for the positioning of the cab on a 360 degree slew type machine when travelling is facing the direction of travel. When would there be an exception to this rule?
When reversing in a confined space where the upper structure cannot be turned.
- Name TWO things that a marshaller should ‘check’ with the operator/driver before their machine transports a load across a site.
1) The load is secure and stable.
2) It is within height and weight restrictions.
- a) Name THREE things that would need to be reported to the supervisor as soon as they occur and
1) Emergencies
2) Unauthorised entry into an exclusion zone (e.g. hot work, fall protection, flammable chemicals etc).
3) Unplanned works or delivery vehicles
- b) Why should the reporting of emergencies, unplanned works and unplanned deliveries be undertaken immediately?
Reduces the risk of additional knock on incidents occurring. Eg: these unplanned events will likely be unsupervised by marshalls causing additional risk.
