Page 118-119 Safety Flashcards
If the material is hazardous
wear a face mask or goggles and protective gloves.
They will protect the skin from splashes and spilages.
If the material is hot.
Wear an apron and protective gloves. For welding you will need a tinted face sheild.
When using pins and needles
Use a thimble.
When using noisy machinery
Wear ear protection.
Tools and machinery safety.
Sleeves rolled back, apron string tucked in and watches taken off.
Never leave machines on and unattended at the same time.
Know how to switch off in an emergency.
Don’t change parts untill you have isolated the machine from the mains.
Always secure work e.g with a clamp.
Use guards on machines that have them, e.g a pilar drill.
Use a dust extractor if it has it.
Risk assessments
Minimises all possible risks.
What could be a hazard, how to minimise this as a hazard.
Safety tests.
Research materials and test them so you know if they are suitable.
Use standard components as they have been tested.
Make prototypes and test real life simulations.
Get elecrical parts PAT tested. (portable appliance test.) is it safe to use.
You can use Cad software to simulate stress tests.
