Properly mounted and secured
Meaning that the component is mounted in the correct location; that it meets all clearance requirements; and that all fastening hardware is present-properly tightened and not damaged
Not cracked is broken
Meaning that it is not bent, broken, cracked, dented, frayed, seized, or warped.
Not leaking
Meaning if the component holds air or fluid then it is not leaking (fuel, coolant, oil, air, power steering fluid)
FRONT OF TRACTOR
-leaks and leans
Check for puddles and drips on the ground to indicate any leaks. The truck is not leaning too either side.
Lens and reflectors
PMS, not cracked or broken. Proper color, working, and lenses are clean
You must open his; the examiner will not help or tell you too!!
DRIVER SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT
- all fluids
Coolant, oil, and power steering fluid not leaking. Filled between the ADD and FULL indicators. Caps are tight
If asked how to check oil explain/demonstrate how to pull dip stick out, wipe off, reinsert, and check level is full
Steering gear box, hoses, and air lines
PMS, not cracked or broken. Gear box not leaking. Both high/low pressure lines and air lines are not cut, frayed, or leaking.
Steering linkage (connecting rods and linkage)
PMS, not cracked or broken. ALL CASTLE NUTS AND COTTER PINS IN PLACE, NOT MISSING.
FRONT SUSPENSION
- spring mounts (front and back), leaf springs, U-bolts, shock absorber
PMS, not cracked or broken. Springs are not shifted, U-bolts in place, shock absorber not leaking
FRONT BRAKES
- Brake hoses
PMS, not cracked or broken. Not cut, frayed, or leaking. Drums/rotors have no contaminates
FRONT STEER TIRE
- Tire (ICD)
Inflation - properly inflated to manufacturer specs checked with an air gauge
Condition - no bulges no cuts
Depth - minimum of 4/32” of an inch checked with tire tread depth gauge
Rims
PMS, not cracked or broken. No welds
Lug nuts and studs
PMS, not cracked or broken. No missing studs or lugs. All tight, no shiny threads, rust trails, or elongated holes which would indicate looseness
Valve stem
PMS, not cracked or broken, not leaking, cap is present, tight, made of steel
DRIVER FUEL AREA
- driver mirrors
PMS, not cracked or broken, clean.
Side marker light, trailer clearance light, rear marker light, ABS light lens and reflectors
PMS, not cracked or broken. Proper color, working, and lenses are clean
Batteries and battery box cover
PMS, not cracked, broke, or leaking. Wires are not cut, frayed or corroded. All connections are tight. Battery box cover is secure
DEF and fuel tank (identify each)
PMS, not cracked, broken, or leaking. Caps are tight
BEHIND THE CAB
- Air, electrical lines, and glad hands
PMS, not cracked or broken. Not cut frayed, or corroded. Air lines are not leaking air, connected to glad hands. Electrical clamps are securely latched on both ends
Entire frame on tractor, trailer, and spread axles
PMS, not cracked or broken. Not bent, no welds
COUPLING SYSTEM
- RELEASE arm, locking jaws, and kingpin
PMS, not cracked, bent, or broken. RELEASE arm is locked in place. Locking jaws are located around the shank of the kingpin. King pin - PMS not cracked, bent, or broken
Trailer apron and 5th wheel skid plate
PMS, not cracked or broken. 5th wheel is properly greased. There is no gap between the skid plate and apron
TRAILER SIDE
- Landing gear and support frame
PMS, not cracked or broken. Landing gear is up and handle in place. Proper spacing between the landing gear and rear of tractor
DOT Tape
PMS, not ripped or torn. Clean and reflective
