Laryngotracheobronchitis (croup)
Inhaled foreign body
Anaphylaxis
Epiglottitis
Rarer causes include the following:
– Bacterial tracheitis
– Severe tonsillitis with very large tonsils
– Inhalation of hot gases (e.g. house fire)
– Retropharyngeal abscess

Vocal cord paralysis
Vascular ring
Gastro-oesophageal reflux
Hypocalcaemia (laryngeal tetany)

Subglottic stenosis
