What is the shaken baby triad?
Retinal haemorrhages, subdural haematoma and encephalopathy is the triad of the shaken baby syndrome
At what age should a child start to crawl?
8-10 months
Which rash is seen commonly in Still’s disease?
Systemic onset JIA (AKA Still’s disease) has a characteristic salmon-pink rash
What would you hear on examination of a diaphragmatic hernia?
On auscultation of the precordium you note the heart sounds are absent on the left hand side but can hear tinkling sounds
What could be considered for recurrent febrile seizures?
Specialists may consider prescribing benzodiazepine rescue medication for recurrent febrile seizures (rectal diazepam or buccal midazolam)
What is the gold standard diagnosis for Hirschsprung’s?
Rectal biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s disease
How long do you need to stay off school for with HF&M disease?
No need to stay off school.
How many rescue breaths should you give in paediatric life support?
Paediatric BLS: give 5 rescue breaths if there are no signs of breathing on initial assessment
What is often preceded by a viral illness and the presence of an isolated thrombocytopaenia and bruising?
ITP
What are the indicators of a life-threatening asthma attack?
Cyanosis
Poor respiratory effort
Peak expiratory flow rate < 33%

Which vaccines for 13-18 year olds normally recieve?
Tetanus/diphtheria/polio + Men ACWY.
What is the drawing and tower block milestones?
Can scribble at age 1
Can draw a line (has 2 ends) at age 2
Can draw a circle (360 degrees) at age 3
Can draw a square or a cross (4 sides/points) at age 4
Can draw a triangle at age 5 (I always just remember this one because it’s annoying that it isn’t age 3)
In general - multiple age in years by 3 to very roughly work out how high a tower they can build, although this doesn’t work that work for a tower of 3:
Tower of 3 = 18 months
Tower of 6 = 2 years
Tower of 9 = 3 years
Where does rubella typically start?
Rubella also results in a mildly itchy maculopapular rash. This starts on the face (often behind the ears) before spreading, but does not become vesicular.
What is the first line management of transient tachypnoea of the newborn?
Observation and supportive care
