Where are the IO sites in paediatrics?

A

Distal Tibia: palpate medial malleolus, palpate 1cm proximally, ensure you are on flat aspect of the bone.
Proximal Tibia: Extend leg, locate distal edge of patella, palpate 1cm distally and 1cm medially.
Distal Femur: extend the leg, locate proximal edge of patella, palpate 1cm proximally and 1cm distally.

What are the weight classifications of IO needles?

A

red - 3-39kg
blue - 3kg and over
yellow - 40kg and over.
Always make sure before you drill, there is a black line visible.

What are the differences in cardiac arrest protocol initiation?

A

5 rescue breaths looking for rise and fall. Up to 5 attempts to get these. If there is chest movement, reassess for signs of life. Start compressions if none. 15:2. If hr less than 60bpm, start compressions.
