PAD Flashcards
AAA monitoring and when to refer to surgery?
Infrarenal or juxtarenal AAAs measuring 4.0 to 5.4 cm in diameter should be monitored by ultrasound or CT scans every 6 to 12 months.
Patients with infrarenal or juxtarenal AAAs measuring 5.5 cm or larger should undergo repair to eliminate the risk of rupture. SMALLER IN Women
AAA risk of rupture for 5,6 and 7cm?
20% for aneurysms larger than 5.0 cm
40% for those at least 6.0
50% for aneurysms that exceed 7.0 cm
How common is claudication?
Claudication symptoms are not always found in high risk patients with objective evidence of PAD. The PAD Awareness, Risk, and Treatment: New Resources for Survival (PARTNERS) program was a multicenter study of PAD detection among 6979 patients. Among patients aged 70 years or older or aged 50 through 69 years with history of cigarette smoking or diabetes PAD was detected in 29% yet among these individuals, classic claudication was distinctly uncommon (11%).
