P9 Motion Flashcards
What is speed on a distance time graph
The gradient of the line.
What is the formula for speed?
Speed=Distance/time
v=s/t
Scientific unit for speed
v measured in m/s(metres per second)
What is velocity?
Speed in a given direction(a vector)
What is displacement?
Distance in a given direction
What is acceleration?
The acceleration of an object is its change of velocity per second.
What is the formula for acceleration?
Acceleration=Change in velocity/time taken
a=Δv/t
Δv= Final velocity -Initial velocity
Δv=v-u(initial velocity)
can also be written like
a=v-u/t
What is acceleration measured in?
m/s^2
metres per second squared
What is acceleration in a velocity time graph?
The gradient of the line.
What is the term negative acceleration
Deceleration
What does braking due to the velocity?
reduces it(in a graph the velocity would be going down)
How do you find the gradient?
height of the triangle/base triangle
What if the line curves?
How would you find the gradient?
Draw a tangent which is a straight line touching the curve and you can find the gradient as it will be as straight-line so it will make a triangle.
What are the 5 suvat equations?
v=u+at
s((u+v)/2)t,
v2=u2+2as,
s=ut+12at2,
s=vt−12at2.
What is the second equation forconstant/uniform acceleration that involves distance and not time?
2as = v^2 – u^2
