P9 Motion Flashcards
What is the equation for constant speed?
Speed = Distance travelled / Time Taken
V = S/T
What is velocity?
Speed in a given direction
What is displacement?
The distance moved in a straight line
What is the equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = Change in velocity / Time taken for the change
a = 🔼v / t
What is deceleration?
Negative acceleration or when an object slows down
How do we know if the velocity is constant on a velocity-time graph?
It will be a horizontal line, because the gradient of the line is zero so the acceleration in this area would be zero
How to find the gradient of the line?
Gradient of the line = the height of the triangle / the base of the triangle
How to find uniform (constant) accelerarion?
Final velocity^2 - Initial velocity^2 = 2 x Acceleration x Distance
V^2 - U^2 = 2as
How to find acceleration?
Change in velocity/time
A positive gradient on a velocity-time graph is…..
Acceleration
What does a horizontal line on a distance-time graph indicate?
The object is stationary.
What does a straight line sloping upwards on a distance-time graph indicate?
The object is moving at constant speed.
What does the gradient on a velocity-time graph indidcate?
Acceleration.
What does a horizontal line on a velocity-time graph indicate?
The object’s acceleration is zero.
What does the area under the line in a velocity-time graph indicate?
The distance travelled.
