P9 Flashcards
what is the equation for speed
speed = distance (m) / time (s)
what is velocity
speed in a given direction
why does an object moving in a circle have a continuously changing velocity
because the speed may be constant but because the direction is always changing, the velocity is always changing
what is displacement
distance travelled in a given direction
what is the acceleration equation
change in velocity/ time taken for the change
what is the acceleration equation when you have final and initial velocity
final velocity - initial velocity/ time
unit for acceleration
m/s^2
how do you work out displacement/ distance travelled from a velocity time graph
work out the area under the line
what is uniform acceleration
when the speed is increasing at a constant rate
why can v^2 - u^2 = 2as not be used on a velocity time graph to work out distance when the graph is a curve
because that equation can only be used for uniform acceleration and if the graph is not a curve it is not unifrom acceleration
