P8 Forces Flashcards
What is Distance?
Distance is how far an object moves. Distance does not involve direction.
What is Displacement?
Displacement includes both the distance an object moves,
measured in a straight line from the start point to the
finish point and the direction of that straight line
What is the equation of speed ?
Speed = distance/time
What is the equation for Velocity?
Velocity= displacement / time
What is the equation for force?
Force = mass x acceleration.
What can vector be represented by?
They can be represented by an arrow.
Deffinition of force?
A force is a push or pull that acts on an object. And that force is measured in newtons.
What are the examples of contact forces?
Friction
Air resistance
Stretching(tension)
What are the examples of non contact forces?
Magnetic force
Gravitational force
Electrostatic force
Is Distance a Scalar or a vector?
Distance is a scalar quantity.
What is a force measured in?
It is measured in newtons.
Centre of mass
The mass of an object may be considered
to act at a single point referred to as the object’s ‘ centre of mass’.
Stability
Stability is a measure of how likely it is for an
object to topple over when pushed or moved.
What is a Resultant forces?
Resultant forces that act along the same line (or plane) are relatively easy to resolve by simply addition/subtraction.
